XOLO Q2000 Video Review

The XOLO Q2000 made headlines a few weeks back, it comes powered by the MT6589 processor clocked at 1.2GHz. The key attraction is a bigger body of 5.5 inch screen with HD resolution. The Q2000 is priced at Rs. 13,999.

Inside the box you will find the handset, screen guard, data cable, OTG cable, a free flip cover, 2600 mAh battery, earphone, warranty booklet and user guide. On the box it’s clearly mentioned that OTG is supported.

The phone is bulky – weight is 186 grams, thickness is 9.65mm, breadth is 77.80mm and length is over 154mm. Look wise it is pretty impressive. Though it might feel a little bigger in the palm, cause of the design and 5.5 inch screen, the Q2000 is an attention seeker. Build quality and finishing is very good. The rear back cover is very thin and seems delicate.

The greyish – black glossy side along with the rear black color blends well. Rear side is with matte finish (feels like rubber).Volume rockers are placed on the left, power button on the right, mic at the bottom and 3.5mm audio jack and micro USB port on the top. On the rear the camera portion is a bit outward.

XOLO Q2000 comes with a 5.5 inch IPS screen with 1280×720 pixels resolution. It supports 4 point multi touch, touch is smooth and responsive plus viewing angles are also good. There are accelerometer, proximity and light sensors.

This dual SIM handset comes with 8GB onboard storage and 1GB RAM. There is micro SD card slot that supports external 32GB cards. You can install apps on external storage.

0.98GB is assigned for apps, 5.44GB as internal storage and 598MB is the free RAM available after the first boot. OTG is supported. This handset runs on Android 4.2 OS.

On the box the chipset mentioned is MT6589W, however it is MT6589 – the same that we have seen on Lava Iris 504q, Zen Ultrafone 701 and the Micromax A116. Q2000 is powered by 1.2GHz quad core MT6589 chipset with PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU.

There is 13MP rear auto focus camera with LED flash and front camera of 3MP resolution. The still image quality is good. On the box it is mentioned that the handset can record and play full HD videos, unfortunately when I tested, it could record only in VGA (640x480p) resolution. I tried all of the video quality options but it always recorded in VGA resolution. It seems like an issue with the camera app as the hardware is capable of recording FHD videos. Probably XOLO will come out with an update to fix this issue.

Key Features of XOLO Q2000
  • Expandable Storage Capacity of 32 GB
  • 1.2 GHz Quad Core Processor
  • Wi-Fi Enabled
  • Android v4.2 (Jelly Bean) OS
  • 13 MP Primary Camera
  • 2 MP Secondary Camera
  • Dual SIM (GSM + GSM)
  • 5.5-inch HD IPS Display
  • Full HD Recording

XOLO Q900 Video Review

The XOLO Q900 is another 1.2GHz quad core powered handset with a smaller screen of 4.7 inches with HD resolution. It is with the same hardware that we have seen on lava Iris 504q and the Micromax canvas A116 HD.

The XOLO Q900 looks beautiful thanks to the glossy white finish and the silver lining that surrounding the front screen. The build quality is very good that gives a premium look. The handset weight is 156 grams with battery, thickness is 10.16mm, breadth is 70.46mm and length is 137.34mm.

The 4.7 inch TFT screen is not scratch resistant and hence a screen guard is included in the box. Screen resolution is 1280×720 pixels and viewing angles are good. There is accelerometer, light, proximity, orientation and magnetic sensors.

The dot matrix is easily visible on the handset. If you tilt the handset a little bit in switched off mode you can see many dots (matrix). This is normal – this on screen dot matrix was reported on many other handsets. The dots are also visible when you are viewing the screen with a white background – it looks like dust particles.

There is 1GB RAM and 4GB internal storage. Of the 4GB storage 1.80GB is allocated as phone storage and 0.98GB as storage for apps. Of the 1GB RAM, 584MB is available (on the first boot after Unboxing). There is micro SD card slot that supports 32GB storage. Most of the apps / games can be installed on the external storage. OTG is not supported.

The Q900 comes with 8MP rear camera with flash. The camera quality is pretty good. It can record 1080p videos. There is front camera too of 2MP resolution. The handset can play full HD videos. The 1800 mAh battery gives talk time of up to 10 hours this is what the company claims. I used the handset for about 31 minutes (for download and ran the entire benchmark test) the battery dropped by 13% and temperature increased from 34 to 44 degree. I played some games for about 13 minutes – the battery dropped by 6%.

Micromax Canvas Turbo A250 Video Review

The Micromax Canvas Turbo A250 is powered by MediaTek turbo processor and sports a 5 inch screen with FHD resolution. Key features are 2GB RAM, 16GB storage and 13MP camera. The Micromax A250 is priced at under Rs. 20,000.

The Box packing is similar to the Micromax Canvas 4. However the handset looks different and does not really resembles the Canvas 4. The SAR value is 0.39 W/kg@1g head and 0.75 W/kg @ 1g body. Inside the box you will find the handset, earphone, charger, data cable, user manual, warranty statement, download goodies, ifloat app manual and SIM ejector. Screen guard is not included and we do not know if the screen comes with some added protection – it’s not mentioned anywhere.

The handset looks pretty cool, it’s made of aluminum and is light weight. I got the blue colored handset. The battery compartment is sealed and there are no visible options to remove it – this means you can get it serviced only from the service centre.

Micromax Canvas Turbo A250 weighs about 137 grams a little lighter than the Canvas Magnus A117. Thickness is 8.74mm, breadth 71.31mm and the length is 142.85mm.

Rear side is with matte finish, on the top side you will find the micro USB port, on the bottom the 3.5mm audio jack with mic, on the right side there is power / lock button and volume rockers and on the left there are the two Micro SIM slots. You need to use the SIM ejector pin to eject the micro SIM slots.

On the rear there is speaker out and 13MP rear auto focus camera with LED flash. The handset does come with accelerometer, light, magnetic, gyro and proximity sensors. Build quality is excellent and handset gives a pretty impressive look.

IPS Screen is 5 inches supporting resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. It’s with CGS technology (Continuous Grain Silicon Screen). Indoors in auto brightness mode the display looked sharp with vivid colors. I could also view the screen comfortably under direct sunlight. The colors reproduction looked good and viewing angles were very good. Touch is smooth and responsive. There is LED notification.

The Micromax A250 comes with 2GB onboard RAM of which 1.5GB is available and of the 16GB built in storage 0.98 is assigned for apps (883MB free) and 12GB as internal SD storage. There is no external micro SD card slot, so you are left with 12GB of usage space only. However OTG is supported, you can connect your pendrive and access its contents using the OTG cable. A250 runs on Android 4.2.1 with OTA (Over the Air updates).

I tried the Asphalt 7, the game play looked smooth but was not able to control the car properly probably cause of low FPS. The Dead Trigger 2 worked well but you can clearly feel the frame drop. The game play was smoother on the Micromax A117.If you are too much into gaming, Magnus A117 will be a better choice than Turbo A250.

There is 13MP rear AF camera with flash and front camera of 5MP resolution. The camera quality is as good as seen on the Micromax A117. Low light photography is also pretty decent. The handset can record full HD videos at 30fps and no doubt can play full HD videos with ease.

The camera comes with some enhanced features like GIF animation,3D panorama and remove objects. GIF Animation records a small video of few seconds and then allows user to animate particular area on the screen. The other area will show still image and the particular area selected will be running the video (animated effect), that’s how the GIF animation is created.

Remove Object also works on the same principle. It shoots several images and then allows users to merge the image to create a new image with most unwanted object removed. If you want to shoot a particular subject or an object but there is a lot of activity around –people moving, you can use the remove object feature. This will shoot several images and you can then remove unwanted people (by merging specific area of the images) and get a clear shot.

I had no issues with3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Did not check the GPS but getting a lock within 30 seconds should not be an issue make sure you enabled EPO / EPO downloads and A-GPS. Speaker sound is loud (average) and clear.

Just like on the Micromax A117, the Micromax A250 also has the BBM link from where you can download the BlackBerry Messenger app. There are several gesture based control that you can setup (check video review).

iFloat Tray: This apps when launched shows a dedicated icon on the screen, you can place it anywhere, when you tap the icon you get quick access to certain apps.

The handset does get heated up and when I was outdoor shooting sample images (in sunlight) the temperature rose to 48 degree. This is normal with many handsets. Handset temperature is not only related to the hardware processing but also the environment.

There is built in non-removable battery of 2000 mAh capacity. As per Micromax the battery gives talktime of up to 7 hours. I used the handset for 23 minutes running benchmark apps and battery dropped by 13% and temp rose from 31 to 38 degree. I played some games for 10 minutes, battery dropped by 7% and temperature rose from 32 to 40 degree.

Verdict

The handset has got a premium look; it’s with an aluminum body and loaded with powerful hardware stuffs, unfortunately the FHD resolution lowers the FPS that affects the overall gaming experience. The Asphalt 7 game did not run as smoothly as expected.

Apart from this there are no issues. The screen looks great and viewable under direct sunlight. The camera quality is good. There is 2GB RAM and limited storage of 16GB. This handset is priced at Rs. 19,999 you can get it for under Rs. 19,500.

Another handset XOLO Q1000s is already available in the market for quite some time, it is with same hardware but HD screen, 1GB RAM and 2500 mAh battery it is currently priced at Rs. 16,999. A tough choice to make cause the Micromax Canvas Magnus A117 seems a better and cheaper option, if you exclude the RAM and FHD part.

Micromax Canvas Fun A63 Video Review

The Micromax A63 from the Canvas Fun series is a downgraded version of Micromax Canvas Fun A74. This dual SIM handset runs on Android 4.2 and is powered by 1.3GHz dual core processor. It houses a 4 inch touch screen, supports 3G and is priced at Rs. 6,399.

You will find the Micromax Canvas Fun A63, earphone, 1500 mAh removable battery, screen guard, warranty card, data cable, power adapter and user guide. The SAR value is 0.70 W/kg @1g head and 1.25W/kg @ 1g body.

The handset has got a good build quality; rear side is with matte finish. The power button is placed on the left, volume rockers on the right, 3.5mm audio jack and micro USB port on the top. This is a dual SIM handset and SIM slot 1 supports 3G.

Micromax A63 is light weight at 122 grams. Thickness is 11.84mm, breadth 65.79mm and length is 124.37mm. Screen is 4 inches (TFT) supporting WVGA – 800×480 pixels resolution with 16M colors. Touch is responsive, smooth and overall a lag free experience. Viewing angles are okay – not really that good. The A63 runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS. There is software update option from Micromax (OTA updates). There are two sensors accelerometer and proximity sensors.

Micromax Canvas Fun A63 comes loaded with 512MB RAM and 4Gigs of internal storage. Of 512MB RAM 230 MB is free and of 4GB storage, 1.1GB is assigned for apps and 1.12GB as phone storage. Micro SD slot is present that can house 32GB cards. Apps can be installed on external storage. OTG is not supported.

The MMX A63 houses a 1.3GHz MT6572 chipset (cortex A7) with Mali 400 MP GPU, it’s the same hardware as found on Micromax A74, Xolo A500S. The performance is good. Gaming is not that smooth as seen on A74 and A500S, there is a mild lag – check the video review. Modern combat 4 and Asphalt 7 did not show up on Google Play.

Don’t expect too much from the camera its fixed focus with 2MP resolution and LED flash that hardly works (though it does flash). There is front VGA camera too for video calls. Check the sample images shot using the A63 handset plus the 720p video sample. The still picture quality is okay and video at 720p with 12fps is no good. Full HD video playback is possible using MX player in H/W mode.

No issues with the sound, it loud and clear. This handset supports 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. There is no built in GPS receiver, in fact the GPS option is missing in the Notification and quick settings options. You can use Wi-Fi and mobile networks to get the location but it’s not very accurate.

The 1500 mAh battery gives a talktime of up to 4 hours. I used the handset continuously for 30 minutes (running benchmarks, playing games etc) the battery dropped by 11% and temp rose to 37 degree.

Conclusion

The Micromax A63 competes with Xolo A500s and the Micromax Fun A74. All of these handsets use the same hardware with minor changes like screen size, design and battery. A63 is priced at Rs. 6,399 and does not come with built in GPS. The Xolo A500s is a better option for few hundred Rs. More or spend some extra and get the Micromax A74.
