Sony unveils Xperia Z1 (Honami) at IFA Berlin

Sony officially unveiled the hotly anticipated Xperia Z1 that has become well-known under the internal petname Honami. The Z1 brought friends on stage – the QX line of lens-style cameras and a number of other accessories.

The Z1 is undoubtedly the star of the show – measuring just 8.5mm in thickness, the Xperia Z1 houses a large 1/2.3" sensor – that's about 70% larger than the sensors on most phones and Sony achieved it without a hump on the back like most other handsets with large sensors.

Samsung jumped head first into the smartwatch field with the Galaxy Gear. It’s made out of stainless steel for the body and futuristic material for the strap. The heart of Gear is a 1.63″ Super AMOLED touch screen with 320 x 320 resolution (that’s 277ppi pixel density).

In a throwback to the S9110 watch phone, the Galaxy Gear features a speaker and mic, so it can handle calls (with a noise cancellation mic), but also understand voice commands with S Voice.

LG released GPad 8.3 teaser video

LG will reveal the LG GPad 8.3 tablet at the IFA electronics show this September. Though the specifications are not yet disclosed, LG has however released a teaser video with a tagline ‘Just Right for you’.

Ask anyone about issues they face when using a tablet and most likely they might say it’s the size.. It’s too big!, its bulky. For some they would want it even more powerful and able to connect with other devices with ease. Portability is another issue.

LG’s new GPad 8.3 is believed to be light weight and easier to use. We will have to wait for the official announcement including the price. This tab will compete with Nexus 7 and other tablets available in the market.

LG is giving more emphasis on portability factor, the tab will be thin, easy to carry and provide a better experience as compared with other tablets that you might have used. The consumer electronics show in Berlin will commence from 6th September, stay tuned!.

Nokia codename Pegasus, Lanai to be 3G-enabled Asha 502, Asha 503

Nokia is all set to launch the next variants after the Asha 501, at least that’s what @evleaks would like us to believe. He claims that the next Asha phones are codenamed Pegasus and Lanai, which would be launched as Asha 502 and Asha 503. This could very well be the 3G variant of the Asha 501 with slightly better features.

At the global launch of the Asha 501 in New Delhi in May, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop had told BGR India that Nokia was working on an 3G variant though he was reluctant to give any timeline. “This is the first in a family of Asha phones and a 3G model is coming. It was all about optimizing resources and getting the first product out as soon as possible,” Elop had then said. Probably, the launch is close.

The Asha 502 and Asha 503 could be those devices, with one of them being a dual-SIM variant while the other accommodating a single SIM. Earlier leaks have suggested that the 3G variant would also have a better 5-megapixel camera with flash. Nokia is also planning to bring its Music Store to the new Asha full-touch range.

However, the pricing that Nokia is able to achieve for the 3G variants considering anything above $100 will touch smartphone territory, including Nokia’s own Lumia 510 Windows Phone smartphone.

iOS 7 to be launched on Sep 10

September 10 is the date we’re currently marking in the diaries for the iPhone 5S and 5C reveal, and that may have just been reinforced by a claim that we’ll see the release of iOS 7 that very same day.

According to an email sent to developers from Nuance, the company behind Siri, the general availability date for iOS 7 is set for September 10.

The Next Web contributing writer Owen Williams posted the below email from Nuance to his personal blog, it reads:
As you are probably aware, iOS 7 GA will be released on September 10th.
The NDEV Program has pre-qualified that SpeechKit 1.4.5 works properly on iOS 7, but we encourage you to conduct own testing to ensure that when the upgrade happens, your Nuance speech services continue to work seamlessly.

It asked developers using its API to conduct testing to ensure that their services work on iOS 7 even though its SpeechKit 1.4.5 is pre-qualified to work properly on iOS 7. Nuance is the voice recognition focused company which has also worked on Siri, Apple’s intelligent voice assistant.

Historically, Apple has released iOS Golden Master versions to developers on the same day as the announcement of new iPhones, giving developers time to test their apps with the final version of the new iOS before its release it to the general public a couple of days before the launch of the new iPhone.

Images and spec of HTC One Max surfaced online

HTC One Max announcement should happen in September at IFA, around the same time Samsung is going to unveil the Galaxy Note III. It seems, though, that HTC is having some trouble keeping the device under wraps as yet another bit of info about it surfaced online today.

First we got to see some live pictures of the One Max, along with alleged specs. Then an unfinished official render popped up. We also saw the HTC One Max next to a Motorola XT882 as well as sized up next to an HTC One mini and a regular HTC One. The last of those also revealed that the One Max back might boast a fingerprint sensor.

Today, we get to learn some more specs of the HTC One Max. The new pieces of info detail the front camera, which should be 2.1MP (same as HTC One). According to the leak though the One Max will run on the latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and Sense UI 5.5.

We also received confirmation of some of the previously rumored specs - a 5.9" 1080p display, Snapdragon 800 chipset (quad-core 2.3GHz Krait 400 CPU, Adreno 330 GPU, 2GB RAM), a 4MP UltraPixel camera and Wi-Fi a/ac/b/g/n.
There is no word on the fingerprint scanner though nor is there indication of the One Max will pack a stylus.

Robert Downey Jr. is already working hard to promote the One Max and we are hoping HTC will really deliver a device to live up to all the hype. September is close, so it won't take long before we find out.

Sony has already showed us the power key, the water-proof panels, the G-lens at the back, as well the slim profile which also revealed the announcement date - September 4. Yes, it's the same day Samsung will premiere the Galaxy Note III.
