Samsung unveils Galaxy Note 3 phablet at IFA Berlin

The rumor mills have spewed out quite a lot of rumors and leaks of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 in the weeks leading up to the IFA in Berlin. Moments ago, Samsung officially announced the 5.7-inch phablet.

In terms of design, the new Galaxy Note 3 is thinner, lighter and has slimmer bezels than its predecessor. Instead of plastic at the back, it has a soft textured back cover along with a serrated pattern on the side, which is meant to give the feeling of using a notebook or a diary. It also boasts a new and improved S Pen, which has a new Air Command feature that opens a palette of five tools to use the Pen better.

Talking of specifications, the phablet flaunts a 5.7-inch full-HD Super AMOLED (1920×1080 pixels) display and is powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC or an eight-core Exynos 5 Octa chipset depending on the market. We expect Samsung to launch the Exynos version of the Galaxy Note 3 in India.

Other features included are 3GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel rear camera with Smart Stabilization and high CRI LED flash, 1.9-megapixel front camera, a 3,200mAh battery and 32/64GB internal storage that can be expanded using a microSD card.

On the software front, the phablet runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and also includes Samsung’s Knox mobile security feature, which is basically the company’s enterprise and consumer security service.

The Galaxy Note 3 will start shipping by the end of this month and will be available across the world in October.
