Oppo lanuched N1 comes with rotating camera

Oppo mobiles have announced Oppo N1 the world’s first smartphone with rotating camera. Oppo is a well known premium brand in China. The smart phone comes with 5.9 inch screen but the key feature is the rotating camera with a 206 degree rotation.

Oppo N1 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon (600) quad core processor clocked at 1.7GHz with Adreno 320 GPU. The handset weighs 213 grams with a 9mm thickness. N1 sails on Android 4.2 with 2GB RAM and optional 16 or 32 GB storage. N1 seems like a single SIM handset.

The IPS screen of capacitive nature is 5.9 inches supporting FHD (1920×1080 pixels) resolution (16M colors). There is just one camera of 13MP resolution with dual mode LED. The same camera can be used as a front camera, by simply rotating it.

There are two more exiting and new features apart from the rotating camera and that is O-Touch and O-Click. There is a rear touch panel that can also be used to scroll, tap, and take pictures. Say if you are browsing a website you can simply slide the finger on the back side top or down to scroll through the web page. There is another feature called the O-Click that gives you an option to control the Camera remotely or trigger an alarm to find your missing phone (up to 50 meters).

Other features are 3G, Wi-Fi (5G), GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, OTG support, micro USB and 3.5mm audio jack. The battery is of a good 3610 mAh capacity. Pricing details are not yet known. It is highly unlikely that OPPO will officially launch this in India, but getting any Oppo device in India is still a distant dream.

Design, Display and OSThe Micromax A74 weight is 144 with battery, thickness is 10.25mm, breadth is 69.32mm and length is 134.63mm. The Micromax Canvas Fun A74 is available in 3 different colors Black, Red and Blue. Handset looks great and has a curvy design. It does look like a Nokia phone on the first instance. The rear side is matte finish that makes it even more comfortable to hold.

The volume rockers are placed on the left, power button on the right and 3.5mm audio jack and micro USB port on the top side. The touchscreen is 4.5 inches with resolution 854×480 pixels (16M colors). Touch is smooth and viewing angles is okay (not really that good). There are light, accelerometer and proximity sensors. This handset sails on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS.

The Micromax A74 comes with 512MB RAM of which 220 MB is free and of the 4GB internal storage 1.27GB is assigned for apps and 1.25 for Phone Storage. There is micro SD card slot and you can install apps on external storage. I tried connecting external pendrive using OTG cable, it doesn’t work. OTG is not supported.The Dual SIM (Dual Standby) A74 comes with MT6572 dual core processor (Cortex A7) coupled with Mali 400 MP GPU. The same hardware that powers the XOLO A500S.

The Camera output isn’t really that good. You can check the sample images. The rear camera is 5MP fixed focus with LED flash support there is a front camera too with video call support. You can record videos in 720p resolution @ 14fps the video quality is not at all impressive.You can play full HD videos in hardware mode only using MX player, in software mode audio video is out of sync.

I tried the Asphalt 7 and the MC4 (Modern Combat 4). Both of these games worked pretty well. The MC4 game play was smoother as compared to what we have seen on the Xolo A500S. The games got installed on the external storage card.3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS worked without any issues. In call / Loud Speaker is loud and clear. Got the GPS lock with 40 seconds.

The removable Li-ion battery of 1500 mAh capacity gives talktime of up to 5 hours. I used the handset for benchmark / games for approx 30 to 35 minutes and the battery level dropped to 6% and temp rose from 32 to 37 degrees.

A good handset for the price, it also gives a premium feel – in fact some might mistaken it to be a Nokia handset. This handset competes with the XOLO A500S, hardware is the same but little difference like A74 is with 4.5 inch screen and A500S with 4 inch. A74 comes with 1500 mAh battery and A500S with 1400 mAh. MC4 game play is better on A74. If you look at the price the XOLO is a little cheaper.Overall Canvas Fun A74 is very good budget smartphone with a comfortable price tag (ignore the camera). It is definitely better than the Micromax A113 and much cheaper.

Micromax Canvas Ego A113 Video review

Micromax A113 Canvas Ego gives a premium feel, however for the price its doesn't seem a good buy. The camera quality is no good and 1080p videos cannot be played or recorded. On the positive side high ends games work pretty smooth. For Rs. 12K there are better options available.

Micromax Canvas Ego A113 is a dual SIM handset powered by 1.2GHz qualcomm processor running Android Jelly Bean OS with 1GB RAM. The Micromax A113 sports a 4.7 inch screen with qHD resolution. The handset is priced at Rs. 11,999.

The sar value as mentioned on the box – 0.50 W/kg @ 1gm head and 0.83 W/kg @ 1gm body. Inside the box you will find the grey colour handset, 2000 mAh battery, power adapter, data cable, quality earphone, user guide and warranty booklet.

The Micromax A113 handset looks great because of its curvy nature. A113 weight is 150 grams with battery, thickness is 9.96mm, breadth is 69.54mm and the length is 138.52mm. The rear side is grey color with matte finish.Power button is placed on the right, volume rockers on the left and 3.5mm audio jack / micro USB port are placed on the top side. The handset feels good and comfortable to hold.

The LCD screen is 4.7 inches with supported resolution of 960×540 pixels (16M colours). There are accelerometer, light and proximity sensors.The Micromax A113 Canvas Ego comes with 1GB RAM and 4GB internal storage. You can install apps on external storage. Internal storage for apps is 1.31GB and phone storage is 1.41GB. Of 1GB RAM 563 MB is available.

A113 is powered by quad core processor (qualcomm ARM Cortex A5) clocked at 1.2GHz with Adreno 203 GPU. This hardware cannot play 1080p videos in hardware as well as software mode, but 720p videos worked really well.

The rear camera is an auto focus camera with LED flash support. The still picture (long shot) is not that good; you can check the sample images below. Even the video recording in 720p mode is not at all impressive. You can record videos in max 720p resolution. The front camera can be used for video calls.

Gaming experience was not that bad, even with Adreno 203 the game play was pretty good. You can check the gaming review video at the end of this article. The Dead Trigger game was smoother (in high graphics mode) but you could see it lagging a bit with left and right movements. Interestingly the Asphalt 7 and MC4 played really well.In call sound, loudspeaker sound level were average but clear. 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS worked well. I got a lock within 30 seconds.The 2000 mAh battery should give a talk-time of up to 6 hours. I used the handset for approx 35 minutes running benchmark apps – the battery level dropped to 20% and max temperature was 40 degrees.

Conclusion
The A113 dual SIM handset looks good, performance is good, can play high end games, however you cannot play full HD videos and camera quality is not at par. For the price of Rs. 11,999 it’s really not worth it, instead go in for the Micromax A110Q or spend extra money for the Micromax Canvas A116 / Lava Iris 504q.

Sony launched QX10 and QX100 lens type camera in India for Rs 12990 andRs 24990

Just like at the IFA, along with the Xperia Z1 Sony also launched its lens type camera attachments for smartphones in India. Both the variants—QX10 and QX100— have been launched for Rs 12,990 and Rs 24,990 respectively and will be available from today onwards.

To remind you, these cameras are meant to work with smartphones and connect to the device via NFC or Wi-Fi. The smartphone’s display acts as the viewfinder, while the lenses themselves have manual controls and memory card slot. These lenses are compatible with Android as well as iOS devices and need the user to download the PlayMemories mobile app to operate them.

Talking of features, weighing in at about 179 grams, the QX100 comes with a 20.2-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor and an f/1.8 Carl Zeiss lens with 3.6X optical zoom. The QX10, on the other hand, weighs 105 grams with battery and memory stick, and comes with an 18.2-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor with 10x zoom and an f/3.5-3.9 Sony G lens.

Both the lenses can record full HD videos at 12-megapixel with 1920×1080 pixels resolution at 30fps in the MP4 format and can shoot even in low lighting situations. We have got some time with the two accessories and will have our first impressions up soon.

Sony launched SmartWatch 2 in India for Rs 14,990

Samsung launched its Galaxy Gear smartwatch yesterday, and right on its heels is Sony, which moments ago launched its SmartWatch 2 at an event in Delhi. Compared to the Galaxy Gear, the SmartWatch 2 is priced at Rs 14,990 and will be available from October onwards.

The smartwatch, which was announced earlier this year at the Mobile Asia Expo, is essentially a smartphone companion device that is water-resistant and supports NFC to easily pair with compatible Android devices.

Design-wise the smartwatch is 42x9x41mm in dimensions and along with the metal strap weighs in at 122.5 grams. It is built using stainless steel and aluminum that helps in meeting IP57 standards for water and dust resistance.

In terms of specifications, the SmartWatch 2 features a 1.6-inch Transflective LCD (220×176 pixels) display, connectivity options like Bluetooth 3.0 and NFC and is compatible with devices running on Android 4.0 and later. The device is charged using the micro-USB port and according to Sony, the battery is good enough for up to 4 days of usage.

In addition to working as a notification device for missed calls, messages and event reminders, Sony says that they have a huge number of apps on the Play Store that will work on the smartwatch, some of which are Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, Google+, RSS, Music player and a remote camera shutter among others.

Sony Xperia Z1 launched in India for Rs 44,990

Back at the IFA conference in Berlin, Sony grabbed the headlines with its Xperia Z1 Android smartphone that boast of a massive 20.7-megapixel camera. Though Sony didn’t reveal any dates then, we exclusively revealed that the smartphone would be launched in India on September 18. Right on cue, Sony today launched the device at an event in Delhi for Rs 44,990 and it will be available from today onwards.

The Xperia Z1 follows Sony’s ‘Omni-Balance’ design language and like other recent Xperia flagships is waterproof and dustproof. Its USP is the 20.7-megapixel rear camera, which includes a 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS CMOS image sensor, Sony’s G Lens and “BIONZ for mobile” image processing engine. Additionally the camera also offers add-ons like Info-eye (visual search), AR effect, Timeshift burst and Social live.

Talking of specifications, the Xperia Z1 flaunts a 5-inch full HD (1980×1080 pixels) display with Sony’s Triluminus display technology. It is powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC, which is supplemented by 2GB of RAM and Adreno 330 graphics.

In addition to the aforementioned rear camera, the device also features 16GB on expandable memory, a 3,000mAh battery and it runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Stay tuned for our first impressions to know just how good the smartphone is.

Asus launched new PadFone Infinity

As expected, Asus launched its new PadFone Infinity in Taipei. The new variant is an improvement over the original one launched earlier this year. Just a few months after the announcement, Asus has changed a few things to make the unique smartphone with a tablet jacket device.

The biggest change in the new version is it is now powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC clocked at 2.2GHz. This should give the device enough processing chops for most functions either in smartphone or tablet mode when compared to the Snapdragon 600 variant.

Asus has also added a microSD card slot and has lowered the internal storage to 16GB and 32GB variants. This should be expected with the addition of a microSD card slot.

The third change is the design with a new diamond cut pattern on the back and new ‘Titanium Black’ and ‘Platinum White’ colors. There is no word about its India launch or pricing at the moment.

Samsung launched Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear smartwatch in India for Rs 49,900 and Rs 22,990

At the recently concluded IFA conference in Berlin, Samsung announced the Galaxy Note 3 phablet and Galaxy Gear smartwatch. Though the South Korean company didn’t reveal when it planned to bring the devices to India, a couple of days back we were sent an email inviting us to the phablet’s launch in India. Moments ago, at an event in Delhi, the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear smartwatch was officially launched for Rs 49,900 and Rs 22,990 respectively and will be available from September 25 onwards.



For those who missed out on seeing the device at IFA, here’s a short recap. The Galaxy Note 3 is thinner, lighter and has slimmer bezels than its predecessor. It also boasts a new and improved S Pen, which has a new Air Command feature that opens a palette of five tools to use the Pen better.

On the specifications front, it flaunts a 5.7-inch full-HD Super AMOLED (1920×1080 pixels) display and is powered by a 1.9GHz eight-core Exynos 5 Octa chipset supplemented with a massive 3GB of RAM. Other features included are a 13-megapixel rear camera with Smart Stabilization and high CRI LED flash, 1.9-megapixel front camera, a 3,200mAh battery and 32GB internal storage that can be expanded using a microSD card.

Talking of the software on the phablet, there’s Android 4.3 Jelly Bean wrapped under Samsung’s TouchWiz UI and the Knox mobile security feature, which is basically the company’s enterprise and consumer security service.

Overall, when compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy Note 3 is far better, both in terms of specifications and features offered. But how does it fare as a complete package? Stay tuned for our first impressions.

The smartwatch is meant to be a companion rather than a standalone device. For now it is only compatible with the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Note 10.1, but with soon-to-come software updates, it will be compatible with the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S III and the Galaxy Note II.

To remind you of the specifications, the Galaxy Gear features a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED (320×320 pixels) display and is powered by an 800MHz processor and 512MB of RAM. Other features included are a 1.9-megapixel BSI sensor on its strap, 4GB of storage and a 315mAh battery, which according to Samsung can last for more than a day.

Once connected to the smartphone, the Galaxy Gear will notify you about incoming calls, texts, emails and other alerts. It also comes with two built-in mics and a speaker to allow answering or making calls. Samsung is also portraying the smartwatch as a health gizmo and has partnered with companies to develop more than 70 apps including MyFitnessPal and RunKeeper among others.

Samsung is offering the smartwatch in six color variants including jet black, mocha gray, wild orange, oatmeal beige, rose gold, and lime green. Does this mean you should throw your boring old analog wristwatch? Well no, we suggest you to wait and read our first impressions, before you take the leap!

BlackBerry launched BB 9720 in India for Rs 15,990

Apple unveils iPhone 5c

The much awaited Apple iPhone 5C has finally been launched. The handset will be available in 5 color variants and unfortunately like other iPhone devices this one too doesn’t fit into the budget category.



The iPhone 5C will cost $99 for the 16GB version and $199 for the 32GB version (with contract) in the US. Without the contract (Unlocked version) the same will be available for approx $549 and $649 this when converted to INR it comes to over Rs. 34,000 and over Rs. 40,000. For now a budget friendly iPhone or a cheaper iPhone is still a distant dream.



The Apple iPhone 5C weighs just 133 grams with an 8.9mm thickness. The screen is 4 inches supporting resolution of 1136×640 pixels with 326ppi and what Apple calls is as the ‘Retina Display’. The handset will be available in Green, Yellow, White, pink and Blue color variants.



iPhone 5C also flaunts a 1.2 megapixel camera on the front and another 8 megapixel camera (iSight) on the rear. It is an auto focus camera with LED flash support. Full HD video recording (with video stabilization) and playback is supported.

5C is powered by an A6 chipset and houses a single Nano SIM. This handset runs on the iOS7 OS. There are proximity, accelerometer, light and gyro sensors. The built-in Li-ion rechargeable battery gives a talk-time of up to 10 hours on 3G networks and up to 10 hours internet usage on a 4G network.

Other features are 4G, 3G, GPS with GLONASS / A-GPS and Bluetooth 4.0. There is still time for this handset to hit the Indian stores but most of you will be keen to know the Apple iPhone 5C price in India.
