BlackBerry to launch Q5 tomorrow in India

BlackBerry is scheduled to launch the Q5 in India tomorrow. The company will host an event in New Delhi and reports suggest that the phone will be priced close to Rs 25,000. The Q5 will be the cheapest smartphone running on BlackBerry 10 OS. Till now, the company has launched the all-touch Z10 and the QWERTY keyboard equipped Q10, but both are priced above Rs 40,000.

In terms of specifications, the Q5 will borrow quite a bit from the Q10. Like the Q10, it will have a QWERTY keyboard, but will be in full plastic chassis that is similar to the Curve range of smartphones. The Q5 has the same Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz that powers the Z10 and Q10. It even has 2GB of RAM and has a 3.1-inch LCD display with 720×720 pixel resolution.

On the back it has a 5-megapixel camera, 8GB of internal memory, a microSD card slot that supports 64GB of storage and a 2,180 mAh battery. BlackBerry has its hopes pegged on the Q5 to revive its fortunes in India, with the launch of a more affordable smartphone. Will it be third time lucky for BlackBerry?
