BlackBerry Q5 to launch in India on July 16: Report

BlackBerry could launch the Q5 in India on July 16 for Rs 25,000 according to a FirstPost report, that cities market sources. The Q5 will be the cheapest BlackBerry 10 smartphone yet and will cater to more of a mainstream consumer.

In typical, BlackBerry fashion the Q5 also flaunts a full QWERTY keyboard and it will become the second BB10 smartphone to have one after the launch of the very expensive Q10. Features wise it’s not too dissimilar from the Q10 as it too features a 3.1-inch display with a 720×720 pixel resolution. However, this time around the company is using a LCD panel rather a Super AMOLED panel like on the Q10.

The Q5 uses the same Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus dual-core chipset seen in the Q10 and Z10 and also shares the same amount of RAM, which stands at 2GB. BlackBerry has primarily skimmed on the core build and internal memory and camera resolution to reduce the price.

Instead of the unique carbon fibre weave build we get a basic plastic chassis that is similar to BBOS 7 Curve smartphones. It also only comes with 8GB of internal memory but can support microSD cards up to 64GB. From the 8-megapixel sensor on the Q10, the Q5 dons a 5-megapixel camera that can shoot video at 1080p resolutions. It also has a massive 2,180 mAh battery and BlackBerry is expected to bundle a MapMyIndia app free, just like the Q10 to make up for the lack of an maps app for India on BB10.
